Learning Assistant Program Students meet with a Learning Assistant one-to-two times per week to set goals and develop effective time management and study skills. To learn more about this program, or to apply to become a Learning Assistant. Learning Assistants help student-athletes with time management, organizational skills, and the development or enhancement of study strategies, including note-taking, test preparation, reading, and writing. They help students to set semester, weekly, and daily goals, and to develop a plan of action to meet those goals, in addition to evaluating progress made towards goal-achievement. Learning Assistants work with the program coordinator and the student to develop an Individual Academic Plan that meets the student’s specific academic goals and needs. They facilitate Writing Support Groups, Objective-based Structured Study groups, and other academic skill-building groups assigned by the Tutorial Coordinator.
Tutorial Program Tutoring is offered either on a one-on-one basis or in a group setting. Tutors work with student-athletes to set semester, weekly, and daily goals in the course they are tutoring, as well as a plan to achieve those goals. They assist in the comprehension of course material, and with the utilization of various techniques based on the student’s preferred learning style. Following each tutorial session, the tutor submits a tutorial feedback form to the student-athlete’s Academic Counselor that evaluates the student-athlete’s comprehension of the course material, provides suggestions for learning strategies, and outlines new grade information.
Direct Studies Program Description Our main goal of Directed Studies (DS) is to support, develop and prepare the student-athletes to become self-regulated learners and to facilitate continued academic success during their career at. Early on in their tenure, we strive to identify the student-athletes who will benefit from individualized academic guidance. Once recognized, trained staff members mentor and empower the student-athletes in their educational endeavors towards academic independence. Advising London High schools Academic Counselors are responsible for monitoring the academic progress of each student-athlete to promote effective communication between the student, academic counselor, coaches, and faculty members. Through a proactive system of intervention, the counselors are able to highlight potential academic challenges and celebrate academic successes. All information gathered encourages student-athletes to take ownership of their academic program and make appropriate decisions regarding their future. Academic progress updates are also provided to the coaches on a daily basis to ensure that the coaching staff is fully aware of how their students are progressing in their courses and how their progress may affect their eligibility status.
